Big Smiles Win Out at Sunrise Festival’s Snow Carving Competition in Inuvik, NT

Ice Wireless Partners with Sunrise Festival to Present Opportunity for Local Artists to

Showcase Snow Carving Skills

INUVIK, NT - January 7, 2017 - Ice Wireless, a leading 3G/4G/LTE network provider in Canada’s North, has partnered with Inuvik’s Sunrise Festival this year in order to provide an opportunity for local artists to showcase their snow carving skills. The annual Snow Carving Competition took place on Saturday, January 7, 2017 from 10:00am - 4:00pm at Twin Lakes in Inuvik with prizes handed out to first, second, and third place winners. Six snow carving participants were congratulated and applauded by judges and spectators as they made the last finishing touches. The event was attended by over 1,000 people.

Ice Wireless, in addition to sponsoring and judging the competition, commissioned a local artist to build a handmade ice sculpture of the Ice Wireless logo. The sculpture was intended to help build momentum for the company’s LTE-A launch in early 2017. LTE-A is a high-speed mobile service for smartphone and Internet users.

“We were happy to support this event, and we thought that building our logo in ice was a fun way to show our flag in the community and bring attention to the upcoming launch of LTE-A in Inuvik this spring,” said Cameron Zubko, Chief Operations Officer for Ice Wireless. “LTE-A is going to make a big difference to our smartphone and Internet customers in Inuvik as they are going to get much faster data download speeds on their devices.” Customers in Inuvik interested in the new LTE-A service will be able to sign up for a new data plan at the Ice Wireless retail store located at the New North Dome in Inuvik.

Inuvik’s Recreation Programmer, Steve Krug, believes the carving competition adds to the overall features of the festival. “It’s something that the community really enjoys,” he said, “It helps engage people in getting outside, into the outdoors. And the Snow Carving Competition was a great way to get people out to participate in the festival.”
