Ice Wireless Provides Sponsorship of Performance Tent for Musicians and Artists, Festival Receives Over 17,000 Visitors

WHITEHORSE, YT – February 26, 2017 – Ice Wireless, a leading 3G/4G/LTE network provider in Canada’s North, kicked off the Sourdough Rendezvous Festival in Whitehorse, Yukon this weekend by hosting the performance tent for northern musicians and artists to perform at the event. The Ice Wireless Performance Tent was one of the main components of the festival and featured performances by both Yukon artists and guests from across Canada, at no charge to the public.

A tradition for almost 50 years, the Sourdough Rendezvous celebrates the 1890s Yukon and Klondike Gold Rush veterans of Canada’s Yukon Territory- known as sourdoughswith exciting games, contests and fun such as dog sled races, can-can dancers and flour packing competitions. This year’s theme, “Connecting Canada,” aimed to honour the 150th anniversary of Canada and the 75th anniversary of the Alaska Highway. The festival ran from February 9th to 26th .

In addition to hosting the performance tent, Ice Wireless provided unlimited free WiFi on festival grounds and launched an Interactive Photo Centre for participants to take, print, and share pictures of themselves at the event on social media. Ice Wireless also designed and launched a new Snapchat filter to commemorate the Sourdough Rendezvous experience.

“There are so many wonderful performers in the Yukon and so much rich, colourful history," said Cameron Zubko, Chief Operating Officer for Ice Wireless. “We were proud to host the Ice Wireless Performance Tent at the Sourdough Rendezvous this year as a place for these great musicians and artists to express their remarkable talent.”

Performances at the Ice Wireless Tent included Gillian Campbell, Air North Rendezvous Cancan Dancers, YRS Queens’ Variety Show, Nicole Edwards, Pet Parade, Thomas Parker Jazz, and Norman Foote, among others.

“The performance tent has been a focal point of the festival for many years and has provided much needed exposure to our local arts community,” said Dave Blottner, Executive Director of Sourdough Rendezvous. “Without the partnership with Ice Wireless, the society could not afford to keep the performance tent free of charge for the public to attend and enjoy. The Yukon Sourdough Rendezvous Society sincerely thanks Ice Wireless team for all of their efforts during the 2017 and hope for a long continued partnership into the future.”

Ice Wireless also conducted promotion at the event to draw attention to its upcoming launch of LTE-Advanced, scheduled for summer 2017. LTE-Advanced is one of the most advanced wireless technologies in the world with theoretical maximum download speeds of 1 Gbps on smartphones and other devices.
